  • I’ve heard that before but really wonder if it’s true. My last encounter with (I believe Mormons though it’s been a LOT of years ago) was while we were eating dinner. The front door was open with the glass storm door closed. They came to the door, knocked, then stared at us while we were eating dinner as a family. We stared back and they proceeded to knock another 3 times before leaving. I mean, regardless of what you are at the door for that’s just rude as fuck so how would they expect a nice response?!

  • I hate how “hack” is used for any kind of breach. This is 100% credential re-use or a shit password:

The attackers appear to be using leaked credentials or brute-forcing to attempt to take control of a large number of LinkedIn accounts.

    And

For accounts that are appropriately protected by strong passwords and/or two-factor authentication, the multiple takeover attempts resulted in a temporary account lock imposed by the platform as a protection measure.

That’s not to say LinkedIn isn’t a steaming pile of garbage, but to say this is a “hack” is disingenuous.

  • Where I used to work we had an FM200 system that I was always super-careful around. If I even thought there was a chance I could set it off I would disconnect the firing pin then leave my car keys there so I couldn’t leave without re-connecting it. They company that installed it said the sensors are looking for “fine particulate matter” so even things like drywall dust could set it off.

  • Mod of /r/homeimprovement here. I don’t know that “keep” is the right word but we have built an amazing community over the years. The API changes rubbed us all the wrong way (as we all mod from third-party apps) but what really clinched it was the utter abhorrent treatment of us after we shut down. We are still shut down, and reddit continues to actively threaten UNPAID VOLUNTEERS. The free content and moderation is literally the only thing keeping reddit relevant. We are actively going to force reddit to replace us or backtrack. It will likely be the former, but at least we have made them work for it. It’s sad really…I love the community but I’m not going to continue to be free labor for a company that simply doesn’t give a single shit about us or their users.
