My favourite is one is being able to create PWAs in Safari. It's nice not having to rely on a chromium browser for it.
Finally, I get Kbin on desktop! I just wish there were dedicated back buttons. (command+[ works, though.)
You can reenable them in the PWA’s settings (Cmd + ,) -> Show navigation controls.
This is really useful! Thank you! Is there a way to access this setting on iOS?
I’m enjoying this for sure (all my sites get a first class treatment with app switching!), but I keep having to re login to Lemmy, do you have that issue as well?
I haven't tried Lemmy yet. Does it do the same if you use https://vger.app/ ?
I have this issue as well, but on iOS as a normal Safari tab. I thought it was some login token invalidation because of IP change (due to mobile connection) but a couple days ago it happened to me while I was in the same network so I'm not sure anymore.
Maybe it's a Lemmy issue then, mastodon and Netflix do not seem to have this happen.
Yeah, I've certainly only had it happen in Lemmy so far. It can be pretty bad, had to log in multiple times within minutes while I was actively browsing at one point. If I catch it happen on my Mac I might put in the effort to report a bug, if I can figure out a way to debug it since it's seemingly random.
I hope to make use of this on iOS for YouTube. Will be nice having that the YouTube site in it's own separate "app" instead of having to keep closing tabs.
What is PWA?
Progressives With Attitude.
Fuck yeah!
Progressive Web App
It stands for progressive web app. For websites that support it you can create an app out of the website by going to share and add to dock. Gmail, WhatsApp, and Lemmy are good examples of websites that support it.
One of my favorite features of enabling sudo with touch id that survives updates: https://sixcolors.com/post/2023/08/in-macos-sonoma-touch-id-for-sudo-can-survive-updates/
- Disable Pointer Acceleration
Finally! Also, RIP LinearMouse
I'm not going to complain too much about a free update, but it does seem that Sonoma is mostly about updates to Apple's bundled apps (which I don't use), and doesn't do a lot for the OS itself.
- interactive widgets
- widgets on the desktop
- option to disable mouse acceleration (finally!!)
- support for hearing aids (I’ve been waiting for this one for years)
- can now change text size per app
- other apps can access passwords, so you can finally use your Safari passwords on chrome
And these are only the OS changes that I care about. I’m sure there are more.
Has Sonoma broken anyone's apps or workflows?
