What’s the starting salary for fresh graduates in engineering?
It’s a wide range, depending on the type of engineering, the city where you work, the industry, and where the company sits within the industry.
Country? Currency? Goes up after the PE exam for sure, but that’s a few years out
If it’s not specified, assume it to be America or Europe
Well yeah it’s not specified, that’s why I asked lol
way too many factors to say. more than a barista, less than an experienced engineer.
Take a look at levels.fyi. You can sort by position, company, and location.
Thanks! This is a good resource.
US, Mechanical Engineer here. It definitely depends on where you are. In a city you’ll start out between 60 and 75k. Rurally, between 45 and 60k. The size of the company will also play a big role.
Also, consider that you won’t really get any raises unless you move to another company. Talent retention doesn’t rank as high as talent recruiting unfortunately.
To add a bit more detail, it’s a bit more complicated than city vs rural. If you’re in a rural area that’s within an hour of a city, you’ll usually have comparable salaries to the city due to ease of commute. But if you’re in rural Nebraska, you’re definitely getting the rural rates
Like the train kind of engineering?
That can vary based on what type of engineering, what country you’re in, what city you’re in, what company you work for, or like any of dozens of other factors.
Check out glassdoor if you are in the US. Last I looked the data was pretty decent though it may be slipping. Be careful posting there.
Also if you are friends (or friends of friends) with any experienced recruiters not at the companies you’re applying to, they usually have up to date info.
